That does not look safe, standing on the chair like that.
How old were you and how old was Sija when she got taller than you?
I was 9 and Elizabeth was 7 when she overtook me.
That is pics of kids were taken back then- Parents were lying on the floor in case kids decided to step off and fall. There were no babyproofed houses, no car seats, no safety helmets, NO RUNNING water or in doors bathrooms( where we lived, even now our house does not have running water. I survived - oh, and I played outside ALONE when I was 3-4 years old because everybody knew everybody in our community. I even went to store half a mile away ALONE to buy me some marmelade and I knew how to go there and get back. SO FREEKY.
I think I was about 17-18 when she started growing really, really fast. She is 4 years younger than me
That is such a cute picture!! You look like a little boy. Almost!! You're so cute, Diana :)

I was teasing about the chair.
Once when Steven was about 18 months old, I took a shower when he was napping on the couch. I was very quick, not more than 5 minutes in the shower.
When I got out, I found Steven that Steven had woken up, pushed a chair over to the kitchen counter and was sitting on the counter, washing his feet in the sink.
The knife block was next to him and our large chef's knife was lying on the counter where I left it, right next to him.
It could have been bad, but he was so happy, paying no attention to the knives, he liked running the water in the sink on his feet.
I never wore a bike helmet until after I was out of college. I also used to roam the neighborhood.
Things are different now, but our street is kind of like you describe-- it's a dead end and all our neighbors are very friendly and have kids of similar ages-- 3-year olds run around by themselves and come over to play in our yard, Steven in particular will watch out for them.
Trust me Kathy, some people who have seen this pic flipped out and started telling me that my parents must have been really really irresponsible ones. lol
